Has anyone tried it yet?

I'm currently testing it on a virtual machine. It's alot different than 2000 and 2003 servers, so be prepared for taking some time and learning!

It also boots slower than 2003, but the core features and interface are alot better.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I've been wanting to just been too busy with my web stuff. I'll have to give it a try.

What are some of the new features in this version?

Lots of cool stuff in Server 2008.

It's based on Vista, so it has the Vista features. DNS is easier to configure, and the integrated email services are much better. IIS7 took a little time to figure out, but alas it is pretty good as well. It takes time just like anything else.

I'll definitely have to try it out under VMware and play with it.

You can download and use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 for free. I find it less of a hog on resources than VM Ware.
